GOLDEN CIRCLE
GOLDEN CIRCLE & GLACIER
We start this day tour by visiting the world’s oldest parliament, established in 930 and located in the serene national park of Þingvellir, a place of unparalleled natural beauty, a geological wonder and the location of many of Iceland´s most historical events. Þingvellir is a World Heritage site, where the heart of the Icelandic nation beats. We will stroll through the Almannagjá gorge, which marks the eastern boundary on the North American Plate.
As we continue on our journey, we pass Lake Laugarvatn as we make our way to Haukadalur valley. This valley is known for geothermal activity and is the home of many geysers, like Geysir and Strokkur, to name a few. Here we are sure to see some spouting geysers, since the very active Stokkur goes off every few minutes.
Only a short distance from Geysir, lies the majestic Gullfoss waterfall, graceful 32m high waterfall. The water plummets down in two stages into a rugged canyon which walls reach up to 70 meters in height. From there we head on out to the Langjökull glacier, the second largest glacier in Iceland, before we start making our way back.
If you feel up for some more action the Golden Circle Tour is available with an additional snowmobile option. Check it out.
